Unlock your school's potential.

Every school has the potential for excellence, where all students succeed.

But what sets schools on that journey apart from those that remain at the status quo?

Systemize Your Instructional Leadership

In this self-directed course, you will learn the strategies that lead to improved teaching and learning.

The resources in Instructional Leadership Operating System address common barriers to success.

  • Overwhelmed by Administrative Tasks? Create processes to defer demands of administrative duties.
  • Lack of Staff Engagement? Empower teachers as leaders through shared authority of professional learning.
  • Communication Gaps? Use a template to easily write a weekly staff newsletter that staff will actually read.
  • Ineffective Professional Development? Use your observations from classroom visits to inform the direction of your strategic plan.
  • Change that Doesn't Sustain? Build a culture based on timeless beliefs and values.

The Instructional Leadership Operating System (ILOS) is your roadmap to overcoming these challenges and achieving better teaching conditions and more equitable outcomes for students. This course distills the practical strategies and tools from my book Leading Like a C.O.A.C.H. into actionable steps that will transform your leadership and your school.

Matt is the author of Leading Like a C.O.A.C.H.: Five Strategies for Supporting Teaching and Learning (Corwin, 2022). Leverage the Three Core Tools to Build a Self-Directed, Adaptive School

  • Instructional Walks: Get into classrooms, build trust, and engage in coaching conversations with teachers.
  • Instructional Framework: Commit as a school to a shared vision of instructional excellence.
  • Weekly Newsletter: Communicate where you are, where you want to be, and how you can succeed together.

What Others Are Saying About This Work

Michelle Steffes, Teacher

"As a teacher who worked at an elementary school where Matt Renwick was principal, I was able to experience the process he highlights. Matt knows how to look for effective strategies in the classroom, as well as how to help the teacher arrive at areas of growth in a supportive way. Matt's approach he utilized as principal of our school helped me feel like he understood me as a teacher, knew my strengths and areas of growth. I still have all of the written walk through things Matt shared with me - - they make me feel both valued and encouraged, but most of all, truly KNOWN."

Mary Howard, Educator, Speaker, and Author

"There has long been a gap in too many schools between leadership and instruction (in some cases that gap is more akin to a chasm). Leaders who offer coaching support in a non judgmental way is an essential missing piece that is much needed. Matt has beautifully described how any school leader can create and support a schoolwide design where instructional excellence is the responsibility of everyone from one side of the school to another."

Jason Drysdale, Assistant Superintendent

"Matt Renwick reminds us of a key element of our shared professional leadership work: we can’t do it alone. He keeps us focused on the value of coaching tools and the pillars he references to keep instruction at the center of the work of educational leaders. Matt draws on an extensive research base as well as his own professional experience to provide an accessible entry point for school leaders as they consider what it means to lead like a coach."
