Consider: What if everyone is too busy to take on one more task?

I hear this response from leaders who are unsure about giving up one of their management tasks.

Here’s what I believe: As the building leader, you get to decide who does what in your school. There are some limitations with job descriptions. But as a rule, you have the authority to change the responsibilities and even the roles for the staff that work in your school. In fact, you are expected to make changes if it means the building will operate more effectively and you have more time to support teaching and learning.

When I have asked others to take on tasks and provided them with the support to do them well, they have generally appreciated it. Effective staff want you in classrooms, supporting teaching and learning. They also want to be empowered in their positions and have some level of authority in the school.
